It seems that the Central Election Commission, like other institutions, is awaiting the Constitutional Court's decision on constitutionality of the President's Decree, Vjosa Osmani, who on March 6, 2026, made a decision on the distribution of the Assembly.
Just one day earlier, on March 5th, the Kosovo Assembly failed to elect the new president, just as it is envisioned in paragraph 2 of Article 86, where it says: “The election of the president of the Republic of Kosovo must take place no later than 30 days before the end of the mandate of the current president”. The mandate of the current president, Vjosa Osmani, ends on April 4th 2026.
For Osman's decree, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, which is headed by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, has complained. The Constitutional Court has imposed temporary measures until the subject's review, March 31, 2026.
Osman and Kurti came to power after their union in the elections on February 14th 2021, but this political alliance was dissolved following Kurt's refusal to support Osman for the second term as Kosovo president.
Osman's great protagonism, especially in international events, prevented Kurt and Vetevendosje, publicly ending their political union full of enthusiasm in the winter of 2020/2021.

New elections have also been declared by the Central Election Commission.
On 9 March, the spokesman for this institution, Valmir Elez, has told Economy Online that they do not comment on political developments and that the CEC's stance remains the same, as in other cases.
According to him, organising a new election process within a short time after the last elections poses a challenge for the CEC and its staff, however, this institution will act in line with the constitutional and legal mandate.
The organisation of both a new and early election process for the Kosovo Assembly, only in a short time after the election closure -- also premature for the Kosovo Assembly -- poses a challenge to the Central Election Commission and its staff. Even so, The CEC, as the permanent institution that has the main task of organising elections, will act in accordance with the constitutional and legal mandate, and will take all necessary actions to hold new elections, whenever it is required”, Elesi has said. /Periscope
