Geological Service confirms earthquake: There was potential risking citizens and causing damage

Based on the seismological Network, the Kosovo Geological Service and the Euro-Mediterranean Seismic Centre, as well as the numeric analysis of seismic data, at 10:02/2026 local time, Kosovo's (South East Kosovo) territory has been hit with an earthquake of magnitude 4.8 on the Richter scale, respectively, at VI magnitude.

The institute says the hypoccentrial depth was 5km.

The focus of this earthquake was 23km east of Prizren.

The earthquake in question has been marked by Kosovo citizens. This seismics had the potential to endanger citizens and cause some material damage because of the force above, at the same time these earthquakes testify to Prizren's seismic zone, which is an active area, as well as to estimates and studies presented with the Sismic Risk Map for Kosovo”, the Kosovo Geological Service has said./Periscopi/
