Trump: Iran is being more serious in negotiations, but US remains ready for action

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said contacts with Iranian representatives are continuing.

We're talking to them. I think you're being serious”, he said.

According to the American president, the Iranian side is displaying a more determined approach than in the past, though it does not guarantee reaching an agreement.

I think they're much more serious than we've ever seen before, but that doesn't mean we'll reach a deal. We'll see what happens”, Trump said.

Asked whether he has made a decision to resume major attacks on Iran, he replied such a decision has not been taken.

Trump stressed, however, that the US is prepared to act in case the situation requires it.

“We are fully prepared and ready to act. But we're talking to them, so we're going to see what's coming out of this”, he added.

The statements come at a time when tensions in the Middle East have also expanded to Yemen and the Red Sea.

Saudi Arabia has launched attacks on the positions of Iran-backed rebels Huth, after they allegedly targeted Saudi ships.

Saudi Army spokesman Turki al-Maliki said the coalition had given a “decisive and powerful” response to targets threatening navigation security.

Following the attacks, Huth claimed they launched a rocket towards the Saudi city of Jiana, while authorities activated warnings for residents.

Pakistan condemned attacks on Saudi ships and warned that any threat to its maritime interests would be treated as a serious danger.

The spread of clashes from Iran to Yemen and the Red Sea has raised concerns that the conflict could expand into a larger regional confrontation.
