Brother and several close guarantor friends for Thaci, the defence answers Mr. SP's Fear of Escape After Free request

Hashim Thaci's defence has responded to The Hague prosecutor over the latter's argument that detention remains proportional to the former Kosovo president.
Thaci's defence has said that SPS claims that Hashim Thaci may have access to considerable funds in case of release are “specific claims”. The defence says Hashim Thaci has been in prison since 2020 and that any financial support has been reduced over time, especially because of the court processes in which it is located, writes the Express, Periscope broadcast.
Moreover, SPS support in claiming that Mr. Thaci may have access to considerable funding and easily obtain support is speculative. Mr. Thaci is in custody, is unemployed and has withdrawn from political life since late 2020; hence, any support he may have had has been reduced over time, and due to significant expenditures caused by the two court cases he is currently facing”, the defence response is said.
It is also said that the proposal to hand over passports is a move that greatly alleviates the possibility of escape.
“As far as the claim that he could escape into jurisdictions that are not in the jurisdiction of Kosovo Specialised Chambers ( The defence stresses that the surrender proposed by Mr. Thaci of his passports a move that has been imposed on his indictees as well is sufficient to ease any such risks”, the defence adds.
The defence also cites the financial guarantee Hashim Thaci has proposed, worth 50 thousand euros, as a measure limiting any risk of escape. The letter mentions that garrisons are Hashim Thaci's brother and his close friends.
The end, but no less important, significant financial guarantee proposed by Mr. Thaci further limits any danger of escape, stressing that his guarantors are his brother and close friends”, the defence document said.
On these arguments, Thaci's defence has said they keep the demand for him to be released under conditions considered appropriate.
