AME: Prizren is active seismogene area

Emergency Management Agency (AME) has announced that Kosovo's territory, the southeastern Prizren Strepca, is hit by a 4.8 magnitude quake on the Richter scale and the 6th magnitude of Mercal, respectively. According to AME, the earthquake has had hypocreme depth of about five miles [5 km], while the epicentre has been located about 23 km east of Prizren, with geographical coordinates 42.144 and 20.985.
“Earthquake has been noticeably felt by citizens in different parts of Kosovo and, due to its strength, has had the potential to jeopardise citizens and cause slight material damage” reportedly in the Emergency Management Agency's announcement.
The agency has stressed that this event confirms that Prizren's area is a seismic active area, just as it is envisioned in the Sismic Risk Map for Kosovo.
Until right now, there are no official reports of serious damage or hurt persons, while responsible institutions are on full alert and are monitoring the ongoing” stresses the announcement.
The AME has called on citizens to remain calm and to be informed only by official sources, while in case of other shocks, to stay away from falling windows and objects, to lodge under strong tables or against the supporting walls, and to follow the shocks in open spaces.
Citizens are also advised not to use elevators, avoid unnecessary motor vehicles, check residences for eventual damage, and help needy ones.
