Rubio: NATO Needs Reconception, Not Change Purpose

In another statement, Rubio said that the United States is located at a good point “for the Greenland issue, adding that a process is under way that, according to him, “will lead to a good result for all”.

Asked about the State Department's assessments on the number of victims during the protests in Iran, Rubio said it is “with security for thousands of dead”. He added that, even though the protests currently seem extinct, they are expected to explode again in the future.

Speaking of Venezuela, Rubio said the United States is “well ahead of schedule of” in the plan for this country. He said Washington has made numerous efforts to convince President Nikolaás Maduro to voluntarily step down from power, but stressed that “is not a person with whom we can reach agreement”.

While witnessing at the Senate's Foreign Relations Commission, Rubio said the US already has very good and productive “communications with Venezuela's transitional leaders, following the military operation for the arrest of Maduro earlier this month. He also voiced expectations that an American diplomatic mission to Venezuela will soon be opened.

Rubio made it known that of $500m in oil sales, about $200m remains in an account, while $300m has passed to Venezuela's government. He stressed that the United States is not spending funds in Venezuela, in addition to the costs for opening the embassy, and that some permits from OFAC will be needed to help stabilise the country's economy. /Panorama.al/ Periscope.
