Rama from Israel: I am Catholic, Muslim woman, my little child can become Jewish

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama delivered a speech in Knesset in Jerusalem on Monday (26.01.2026), praising Benjamin Netanyah. I can tell you that my knees shake next to him”, Rama said, describing the Israeli prime minister as one of the five best speakers in the world.

During his speech in the Knesset, Edi Rama emphasised the historic relationship between the two countries, claiming that Albania served as a “streed” for thousands of Jews during the Nazi period.

He personally referred to the religious affairs of his family:

“I am Catholic, my wife is Muslim, our two oldest children are Orthodox and the youngest can one day choose to become Jewish... and that would be a joy to us. Our family is not unique... It's a common Albanian story. Albanians celebrate each other's important religious days together. ”

When others handed their Jews over to authorities, Albanians handed them over to a safe place. This story is not an ornament, it is a compass we must follow if we want to remain worthy of the gift of life that God himself has given us and to create something worthy of this gift on this earth so that our children and their children do not suffer tomorrow because we do not have the courage to face today or learn from yesterday. That is why Albania was among the first countries in Europe to adopt new advanced legislation against anti-Semitism”, he added.

Then, making a historic retrospect, Rama stressed:

No one else in Europe can claim such a historically clean registry, with no single Jew ever delivered to the Nazis. And no one better than Albania can testify for a simple truth than being Muslim and being antisemitic are bound together by faith in God, but by God's most disgusting betrayal. ”

Referring to international news, Rama focused on Albania's involvement in Donald Trump's Peace Council, while directing arrows also on Hamas, describing Palestinian civilians as the organisation's “prisoners”.

Recently, commenting on the recent protests in Iran, Albania's prime minister said:

My question here is this: How is it that the world media speaks of 30,000 deaths in three days in Iran, but there is no gathering in any square in Europe against the Aiotholas calling for the end of this regime?” /Mapo.al/
