Kosovo citizens are getting more loans than ever before.
The year 2025 found the emerging banking market, with over 2,684 billion euros of new loans, as interests began moving slowly after several years of stability.
The value of new loans given by banks in Kosovo during 2025 reached 2,684 billion euros, marking an increase of 3.8 percent compared to the preceding year (2024), when the value was 2.587 billion euros.
According to Kosovo Central Bank data, this is the highest rate of new loans ever registered in the country, reflecting an added lending activity in both the family and business sector.

On the other hand, an effective interest rate has been noted from 6.1 percent in 2024 to 6.4 percent in 2025. While growth is easy, it signals a possible turn after several years of low historical interests.
In 2015, Kosovo's banking market has recognised a steady expansion: from 1.1 billion euros in 2015 to almost 2.7 billion euros in 2025, while average interest rates have dropped significantly from 8.3 percent in 2015 to about 6.4 percent last year.
According to official data, the total of loans increased from 3.2 billion euros in 2020 to over 6.4 billion euros by the middle of 2025. Meanwhile, average interest rates have moved from 6% in 2020 to 6,38% in 2025.

Commercial banks in Kosovo individually define interest and deposit rates, based on their business policies, and the CEC has no right to intervene directly on them.
Ten commercial banks operate in Kosovo. The number of debit cards in 2024 had reached 1.4 million and credit cards to about 195 thousand.
