Zelensky: Trump backs Russian energy revenge attacks

Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky said US President Donald Trump has told him Kiev could respond to Russia's energy infrastructure attacks by acting similarly, as Ukraine continues operations on Russian refinerys. If they attack our energy, President Trump supports that we respond [attacks on] energy”, Zelensky said in an interview for Axios, published on September 25th.
He added that Trump has also given the green light for revenge attacks on Russia's military factories. However, Zelensky suggested that these objects may be more difficult to hit because they have a high level of defence.
Zelensky's statements come several days after he spoke with Trump at the Magyars of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 23rd.
The meeting was followed by a sudden change in Trump's stance, when he said Ukraine could regain control of its borders “with time, patience and financial support of Europe and, especially, NATO's”, reports the resolution.
“ [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and Russia are in trouble IN THE past”, Trump wrote on the Social Truth, suggesting that economic problems were one of the reasons why he expressed confidence in Ukraine's capabilities.
The Kremlin denied that claim on September 24th, even though it acknowledged that “, Russia is facing several tensions and problems in some sectors of the economy”.
Zelensky said he told Trump that Ukraine is afraid that they can reach deep on Russian territory.
Kiev, meanwhile, is continuing attacks on Russian oil refinerys late. A day after Zelensky's meeting with Trump, Ukraine attacked the Salavat oil complex, which is one of the largest in Russia.
Salavat is located about 1,000 miles [1,500 km] from front lines in Ukraine.
