New York Mayor Eric Adams has officially withdrawn from the race for a second term, in an unexpected development that comes amid increased political pressure to unite votes against Socialist candidate Zoran Mamdani.
Adam's decision comes after weeks of speculation and dilemma over his political future, while he ranked fourth in the polls, after Mamdani leading the former governor Andrew race. Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa, follow Periscope.
In a video statement to citizens, Adams said: It's been an honor to be your mayor. ”He stressed as achieving his mandate to reduce crime, build thousands of residential units and manage the immigrant crisis that hit the city.
