The bans follow the dismissal of the mayor of the province of Istanbul of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) by Ozgur Celik, by a court Tuesday due to alleged irregularities at a CHP provincial congress in 2017, Reuters writes, broadcast Periscope.
Turkish police arrested five employees from Besiktas and two from Avcilar two Istanbul municipalities Wednesday, NTV reported.
Today's detainees are among the 15 mayors imprisoned as part of a widespread corruption investigation. Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, Erdogan's main political rival, has also been arrested. /Periscope/
