The tragic incident occurred during an event organised by the now-known actor and politician Vijay, who was conducting a campaign for his new political party, Tamillaga Vettri Kazhagam, under state elections expected to be held early next year.
According to witnesses, the great crowd that had gathered to pursue Vijay's activity caused sudden chaos. Mass clashes and oppression resulted fatal, leaving dozens of victims and many injured.
