In “Unite the Kingdom Rachel”, which collected up to 150 thousand participants, had a clash with law enforcement, where bottles and other means were thrown against the police. Police officials reported 25 arrests and warned that the number could increase, the BBC reports.
Among the speakers was billionaire Elon Musk, who connected with the video footage talking about “uncontrolled migration” and calling for “changing government” in Britain.
At the same time, about 5 thousand people participated in a counterpropos organised by the “Stand Up to Racism” movement. Both crowds separated from the police cordons, but tensions erupted when some Robinson protesters tried to cross towards the opponents' area.
Police reported that some officers suffered tooth failure, head shocks and other serious injuries.
British Interior Secretary Shabana Mahmood strongly condemned the attacks on police, warning that “anyone participating in criminal activities will face the full power of law”.
Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lonnon, closed the rally promising to organise similar events.
He was released from prison earlier this year after serving a slander sentence on a Syrian refugee. /Periscopi/
