Today, starting at 09:30 p.m., the Constitutional Court in Pristina will hold court hearings against MP Albulen Haxhiu and former escorts Donika Kadaj and Pal Lekaj, accused of throwing tear gas into Kosovo's Assembly spaces in 2016.
The accused face criminal work <x0 malpractice”, for according to the indictment in February 2016, they had put tear gas cans into the Assembly Hall while exercising MP's function.
In May 2021, the Constitutional Court in Pristina had declared them innocent for lack of evidence.
But after the prosecution's complaint, the Court of Appeals in October 2022 overturned the verdict and ordered full retrial of the case.
The case had prompted major public and political reactions at the time, as the drop of tear gas in the Assembly had become a form of protest against domestic political processes, including the demarcation agreement with Montenegro and dialogue with Serbia.
Today's session is expected to be held in the presence of indictees and their legal representatives.
