Switzerland has been chosen to take the lead in the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSBE) in 2026, a major honour for the country at a time of numerous global challenges, broadcasts albinfo.ch.
In a speech to the Eternal Council of O The SBE in Vienna, Federal Adviser Ignazio Cassis, emphasised the importance of restoring to Helsinki principles, which stand at the foundation of European security architecture. In a period marked by wars and growing distrust, it is essential to return to the basis of our common security,” said Cassis.
Switzerland's priorities for leading the OSCE:
Firm support for Helsinki principles as the basis for lasting peace and peaceful co-existence among states;
Strengthening sweeping multilateralism, like the best way to fight divisions and international fragmentation;
Forecast future challenges through science and innovation, building policies based on data and knowledge;
Promoting democracy, rule of law and human rights ʹ fundamental pillars of long-term security and international stability;
Strengthening the OSCE's operational capacity, including the protection of existing instruments and ensuring sustainable financing for its missions.
This Swiss engagement to lead O The SEU in a crucial period reflects the country's traditional roles as peace builder, dialogue promoter and reliable neutral parties in the international arena./Periscopi/
