The US State Department announced it has put former Montenegrin sanctions on the list because they are allegedly involved in high corruption and have assisted in drug trafficking operations.
According to the announcement, sanctioned officials are former Budva leader and MP Milo Bozovic, and former chairman of the Supreme Court of Montenegro, Vesna Medenica.
They were denied access to the United States.
According to Washington, Bozovic has abused his public position to support organised crime and international drug trafficking operations.
Meanwhile, Medenica, according to the UN, has abused her public position to support a criminal smuggling organisation by producing judicial information, by mediating judicial decisions and accepting bribes to influence court decisions in exchange for cash and real estate.
This decision reaffirms the US commitment to combat drug trafficking and transnational criminal organisations, as well as corruption threatening US national security interests in the Western Balkans and beyond”, the report said. / REL/
