Rutte expects clarification on European security guarantees for Ukraine

Secretary - General NATO, Mark Rutte, said Wednesday that it expects clarity at a summit of Ukraine's allies on Thursday “or immediately behind it” on what Europe can offer Kiev security guarantees after Russia's war in Ukraine stops. “Pres tomorrow, or right after tomorrow, to have clarity on it [...]
“Pres tomorrow, or immediately after tomorrow, to have clarity on what we can jointly offer”, Rutte said at a news conference with Estonian President Alar Karis at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
“This means that we can engage even more intensively, even with the American side, to see what they want to offer about their participation in security guarantees”, Reuters writes.
French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will be co-organizers of Thursday's meeting -- mostly virtual -- of the leaders of the “will-coalition”, primarily of European allies who have been working on security guarantees for Ukraine.
Such guarantees aim to prevent Russia from attacking Ukraine again after the war is ended, whether through a ceasefire or a permanent peace agreement.
Western officials say the most important element of guarantees will be continuing strong support for the Ukrainian armed forces, but measures are also expected to include an international force to secure Kiev.
