He said that for the US, Kosovo was a primary issue during the war and that relations with Thaci were unique and extraordinary.
Rubin talked about his first meeting with Thaci. There, he said he created the impression that the former leader of the Albanian delegation in Rambouillet viewed America as a symbol of power and as a reflection of what he considered a strong and reliable state, Periscope follows.
After me, his greatest priority was to have the support of American leadership”, Ruby said during his testimony.
Thaci, he said, had no behavior or approach that would jeopardise American support for Kosovo.
“
The former senior US official said the US has made enormous and deep efforts to prove anonymous accusations against Thaci and other KLA leaders of crimes.
Regarding the article of a New York Times journalist, Rubin said that “was misled by Serbian sources”.
We have found it to repeat rumors without evidence, but after working for the New York Times, we had to do deep investigations about them, as it was a very important newspaper”.
Rubin said the journalist made claims that American intelligence and foreign experts could not confirm.
I asked the community, intelligence agencies, external experts, all the people, so they could give me information about criminal actions or such things, I asked experts about international crimes repeatedly, and we didn't get any confirmation of these slanderous comments”.
He said the U.S. State Department “was an office that dealt with war crimes as a minister”.
Some claims, Ruby said, were investigated personally.
“None of the charges concerning his role and KLA leaders, or other charges taken, were true, nothing.”, he said.
