Another Recognition of the Palestinian State

Portugal officially recognised the Palestinian state on Sunday, announced the country's Foreign Affairs Minister, Paulo Rangel, in New York. Rangel stated that a two-state solution is the only “path to a just and lasting peace”, local media reported, adding that the government re-adfirms the “Israel's right to exist” and its “effective security”, as well as the “re-dens once again the terror attacks of 7 October<7> carried out by Hamas.
More countries are expected to join the list that recognises a Palestinian state at the UN summit this week, including France, which, like the United Kingdom, is one of the five permanent members of the Security Council.
Israeli authorities condemned recognition, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claiming to destabilise the region and strengthen the militant group. /Periscope/
