A total of 31 people were arrested in the capital city, Paris. 22 people were injured, including 11 police officers and a journalist. In total, 700 separate protests were held throughout the country.
Earlier, the Interior Ministry reported that over 500,000 people took to the streets across France. However, France's largest labour union, the General Confederacy (CGT), reported that over a million people participated in nationwide gatherings.
Rallys turned into violence in Paris, Nantes, Rennes, Lyons and Marseilles and other cities, while radicals attacked shops and banks. Many were arrested. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowds.
