Poland's military said the drones repeatedly violated Polish airspace Wednesday morning, after Russia had launched a wave of air strikes in Ukraine, including near the border with Poland.
Poland's prime minister, Donald Tusk, wrote on X that it was announced by the Army Operational Command regarding the “deletion of the drones that entered our airspace and could pose a threat to”, follows. Periscope.
He said he has also announced NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's actions taken by the Polish side.
No victims are reported in Poland, and it remains unclear how many fears had entered Poland's airspace.
But Ukraine's president, Voldymyr Zelenskiy, said at least eight Russian fears had targeted Poland, as Russia had released a total of about 415 fears and over 40 missiles to western Ukraine.
“Today there was another step of escalation The Russian-Girian Shahed acted in Poland's airspace, in NATO airspace. It was not just a Shahed that could be called an accident, but at least eight offensive fears set off toward Poland”, Zelenskiy wrote on X.
The military said it is looking for the remains of fallen fears.
This is an act of aggression that posed a real threat to the security of our citizens”, the Army Operational Command wrote in an X post.
This incident has significantly raised tensions in Warsaw and among other members of NATO's military alliance.
Meanwhile, so far there is no reaction from Russia's Defence Ministry.
Poland also said it has closed four airports, including the country's main airport in Warsaw.
The American aviation regulator, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), issued an announcement that even Rzeszowea Airport in the southeast has been shut down. This airport is an important link for transportation of passengers and weapons to Ukraine.
According to Ukraine's air force, almost the entire country, including the western regions of Volin and Lviv, are under air alert in the early hours of Wednesday.
Since Russia began its full invasion of Ukraine in 2022, there have been several incidents of Russian fears that have entered the airspace of border states with Ukraine, including Poland and Romania, but so far had avoided their collapse.
Officials have cited the physical danger such actions could cause and the desire to avoid escalating tensions between Russia and NATO.
Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Andri Syhbiza, said the violation of Poland's airspace shows that Russian President Vladimir Putin is extending the war and testing the West.
The longer he does not face strong answers, the more aggressive he becomes”, said Syhbika on X. A poor response now will provoke Russia further and Russian drone missiles will fly even deeper inside Europe”. /REL/
