Photo as evidence of Serbian genocide is promoted by Danish photo reporter Kosovo

Another testimony from the Kosovo war that experienced from the Serbian state camera has appeared in a book. It is Danish photoreporter Thomas Sjørup, who has promoted his book “Kosovo at War” today in Pristina, which brings the facts of Serbian crime to Albanians. Thomas Sjörup at the promotion said this book [...]
Thomas Sjörup said during the promotion that this book is a product of years of work and reflection, and he added that “Cosovo at War” is not just a collection of photographs, but a visual testimony to courage, loss and resistance.
This book is the result of years of work, reflection and meetings. My hope is for Kosovo to be seen not only as a collection of photographs but as a testimony to a visual registry of courage, defeat and resistance. Each image tells the story of ordinary people who faced extraordinary times. When I first came to Kosovo during the conflict, I saw scenes of unimaginable difficulties. But I also saw the unfailing hope, dignity and soul of the people of Kosovo, which opened to me the doors of his life. These pictures aim to honor that very soul and preserve it for generations to come. Earlier this year, I had the honour and emotion to accept the Presidential Medal of Merit from Her Majesty, the president of Kosovo. This assessment is not just mine. He belongs to every Kosovar who opened the door to my house, his heart and his history, and he let me into his life with my camera.
Institute of History Director “Ali Hadri” Teuta Shala Peli stressed that this publication is authentic evidence of Kosovo and a will for new generations not to forget the freedom sacrifice.
“Today, we are honored to be together at this promotion of the Thomas photo exhibition book, which through art has brought a living testimony to Kosovo. It is a testimony to our institutional care to preserve Kosovo's truth. Publications of history have been sent to embassies and consulates serving as the bridge for our evidence. The photos presented today are not just documents of war that bring the pain of our country and the journey to the book. Kosovo testified before the world as it has been from this book, this remains a testament to the younger generations not to forget the country's freedom of”, she stressed, she noted. Education Ministry representative Arita Kola named the book a vivid reminder that educates young people about the importance of peace and democracy.
This publication is more than a testimony in a collection. It's promotion during wartime. It's a vivid reminder through the author's objective of the device that brings us Kosovo's sacrifices and resistance. This is important for young people to be educated and peace and democracy has been won with great effort and sacrifice”, Kola said.
From the Institute of History, Arber Hadri praised Sjovorup's contribution as a witness to the war and stressed the necessity of saving memory for genocide committed to Kosovo Albanians.
“A precious Danish photographer who has played an important role in promoting the war in Kosovo. It was among the few photocorporators. During the Kosovo war, Thomas became a witness to Kosovo's history, at the time as a lot of photographers except for doing his job, but the photos became actors of change. We survivors of the Kosovo war have a national obligation to remember and preserve the Serbian genocide against Kosovo. These crimes committed by Serbian forces have made dozens of massacres to cleanse Albanians. In this context it is important to support publications like this one today, including an archive in the future in Kosovo. For photography to serve not only to promote but also to turn into a historical mirror”, he added. /Periscope/
