Musliu: Continued detention of former KLA leaders conflicts with international standards

Democratic Party of Kosovo MP Ganimete Musliu has reacted sharply to the decision to continue detention of former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders Kadri Veselini, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi, describing this as serious concern in relation to human rights and international standards. “Continue detention against Mr. Wessel, Mr. [...]

“Continue detention against Mr. Wessel, Mr. Krasniqi and Mr. Selimi is a serious concern in relation to international standards for human rights and the principle of proportionality,” has stated Musliu for indexonline.

She has stressed that, despite the lack of new developments that would reason on keeping them in custody, secure alternative measures have been proposed that have not been taken into consideration.

The lack of new developments justifying keeping them in custody, despite proposals for safe alternative measures, makes this move less and less legitimateally,” added to the PDK MP.

According to her, extending detention in the absence of new objective circumstances conflicts with the fundamental principles of the European Convention for Human Rights.

“Parading cannot be used as a replacement for the sentence, and its duration, in the absence of new objective circumstances, contradicts the spirit and text of KEDNJ Article 5,”, Musliu concluded. /Periscope/
