I just spoke to the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas.
I first thanked him for the excellent co-operation that led to the arrest of one of the main authors of the terrible terrorist attack on Rue des Rosiers. We agreed to work together to ensure his extradition as soon as possible.
In view of the extreme urgency of the situation in Gaza and throughout Palestinian territories, I reiterated my intention to recognise the state of Palestine in New York on Monday.
This recognition is part of a comprehensive peace plan for the region, aimed at meeting aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians for security and peace.
I also reaffirmed our requests to the Palestinian Authority. In this direction, President Abbas reaffirmed his commitment to implement the reforms needed to renew Palestinian governance and face the challenges of stabilising the future Palestinian state. France will continue to stand by Palestinian authorities on this road.
We will make sure that these commitments are respected, for the security and stability of the entire region.
