The incumbent prime minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has held a bilatheral meeting with Belize counterpart John Briceño, within the UN General Assembly's New York Summit Week.
At the meeting, where Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diasporas, Lisa Gashi, and Kosovo General Consul Blerim Reka were present, discussed economic co-operation opportunities and sectors with potential foreign investment, as well as fields of education, tourism, social policies, employment and culture.
ZKME through a media communique said Kurti announced Prime Minister Briceño's progress in Kosovo's economy, democracy and security, thanking him for Belize's support in the Kosovo membership processes in international organisations. He also stressed the Kosovo Security Force's commitment to Belize as part of the joint mission with the United Kingdom Army.
The two prime ministers invited each other for official visits and agreed to intensify exchanges in areas of common interest.
Belize recognised Kosovo in 2008, while diplomatic relations between the two countries settled in 2016. In 2021, New York City, a memorandum of understanding was signed for bilateral consultations among foreign ministries aimed at strengthening co-operation in various areas, including international relations, human rights, peace and security.
