Kosovo's smallest municipality, with the largest number of mayoral candidates

The Pristina municipality in the upcoming local elections will have a total of ten candidates for chairmanship, being one of the most busy races at the country level. As many candidates will have Northern Mitrovica, Kosovo's smallest municipality on the surface. Nine candidates compete in Zubin Potok and Pec [...]
In Zubin Potok and Pec compete out of nine candidates for the first of the municipality, while in Kacanik, Drenas and Leposaviq are of seven candidates. Obilic has six candidates for chairman.
In stark contrast, Ferizaj ʹ one of the country's largest municipalities has only four candidates, as does Mitrovica.
According to political analyst Shemsi Jashari, the low number of candidates in major municipalities relates to fears of losing and damaging political image.
The “This phenomenon comes as a result of the failure to run into large municipalities, including the capital, as their loss would be deep and therefore their political and party image would be greatly damaged”, Jashar told ATV.
Meanwhile, political analyst Basri Muja sees it differently. He stresses that the large number of candidates creates a kind of positive spirit for party lists.
The large number of mayoral candidates, however much of them are clear that the likelihood of being elected is minimal, is much more than the effort to create a positive synergy for the list of respective party candidates”, Muja said.
Part of the local race, besides political parties, are independent candidates and civic initiatives. One of the political agreements reached so far is that between the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the New Kosovo Alliance (AKR), which will compete in the coalition.
Meanwhile, the Central Election Commission (KQZ) has opened the deadline for registering persons with special needs to vote. The application deadline will be open by 7 October. /Periscope/
