On September 6th 1999, for the first time on the streets of Kosovo's capital were seen the blue Kosovo Police uniforms that were then appointed as the Kosovo Police Service (SHPK).
Kosovo police were officially established on September 6, 1999, as one of the key security institutions in the country after the war ended in Kosovo.
On September 6, 1999, the OSCE Mission to Kosovo, in accordance with UN Resolution 1244, has opened the Police School and started training candidates for Kosovo Police members.
In 2008 of independence, Kosovo Police had already spent almost all of their units on transition and had received competencies from UNMIK police, preparing to assume responsibilities for the security of the state of Kosovo.
