The candidate for Assembly, Fatmir Dervisi, who is a teacher at the “Dardnia” school, also attended the conference.
Dervis said the situation in schools is alarming, with numerous cases of violence and harassment occurring daily, while teachers have remained alone in the face of this problem, with no concrete measure from current municipal power.
In this context, Ismaili presented his plan for increased security in schools, making clear the key commitment -- the deployment of 200 trained security officers, who will engage in the schools in rotating Pristina and according to the need. He explained that these officers will be police officers with secondary jobs as well as retired officers, specially selected for the task.
Our “Pokus will be in primary and secondary schools where children need more protection, security and care. We want kids with quality education, but in addition to that, security and well-being for them,” highlighted Ismaili.
He added that each school will also have its own psychologist, since physical security is not enough but emotional and social care is needed for students. Also implemented will be anti-war and violence programmes, through workers, activities and sensational campaigns, building a culture where respect and understanding are standard. Another element of the plan is the involvement of parents as direct partners in the process.
This triangle -- Pristina municipality, parents and schools with security officers -- is the key to a secure Pristina for every child,” said Ismaili.
He also warned continued co-ordination between teachers, parents and municipality to prevent cases of violence and to respond more quickly to any danger.
Besides home, school is where our kids spend most of the day. So it is our obligation to make them safe. Our children deserve schools where they learn, grow up and feel protected,” he concluded.
