Backed up idea for creating a “Arab NATO”

Arab governments are seriously restarting discussions on the establishment of a joint military force, according to The National reports. The project, which was born in 2015 at the initiative of Egypt, has taken note following Israel's recent attack on high - ranking Hamas officials in Doha, Qatar. The start purpose of this “Arab NATO” was [...]
The start purpose of this “Arab NATO” was to contain the spread of the Huth rebels to Yemen, which were supported by Iran.
However, the plan was initially blocked due to disagreements over the command and location of the main headquarters. In the absence of an agreement, Saudi Arabia formed a temporary military coalition to operate autonomously. Now, Egypt aims to return as the guiding power of this project, proposing that the headquarters be established in Cairo and the first commander be from the Egyptian army, the largest in the Arab world.
Under the new plan, the coalition's direction will function in rotation among 22 Arab League countries, while political direction will remain on a civil secretary general. This force would consist of the land, sea, and air armies, including elite units specialising in the fight against terrorism. The main tasks would include defence operations and peacekeeping missions in Arab regions, A2 CNN writes.
Each country's participation will depend on its military capacity, while using force requires formal demand by the affected state and adopting the joint command after consultations with all members. Although the Arab League has a defence treaty since 1945, it has failed to establish a permanent military structure due to distrust and conflicts of interest.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has discussed this proposal with other leaders in the region, and at the Doha Arab-Islamic summit next Sunday, the topic will be further discussed to answer “threats to the security and stability of the Arab world”. /Periscope/
