The decision comes at a time of heated debate over the deportations of criminals and asylum seekers rejected in Afghanistan, which resumed early this year following talks with the Taliban government, which Berlin does not officially recognise, writes Reuters, broadcast Periscope.
The 26-year-old defendant, identified only as Sulaiman A to protect his privacy, was found guilty of using a large hunting knife to attack people during a demonstration in the western city of Manheim organised by the anti-Islamic Pax Europe group in late May 2024.
Sultan A attacked a speaker and some demonstrators in the event before hitting a police officer with a knife who rushed to help. The officer later passed away from his wounds.
The attacker was taken into custody in June 2024 after appearing out of intensive care for the wounds he suffered during his arrest. Even though prosecutors say he liked the militant group of Islamic State, he was not tried for terrorism. /Periscope
