Fatmir Sejdiu resigned from presidential post 15 years ago after the Constitution found violations

Fatmir Sejdiu resigned from the post of Kosovo president on September 27, 2010. His resignation comes as a result of the Constitutional Court's ruling, which states Sejdiu has committed serious violation of the constitution with the keeping of the post of president and president of the LDK, though with positions [...]
Sejdiu made public his decision to resign during a conference in which he is addressing citizens and opinion.
Dear Kosovo Republic citizens. Today I have resigned from the position of president of the Republic of Kosovo. Since February 10th 2006, as president of the Republic of Kosovo and of all its citizens, I have exercised this position with responsibility, full devotion and a clean conscience, always having the interest of our beloved citizens and our beloved country” as a fundamental guide, Sejdiu said.
The retired president, Sejdiu, stressed that he had held the post of LDK chairman with frozen positions convinced that this did not present violations of the constitution.
However, he said the decision on resignation had been made precisely to respect the Constitutional Court as the highest insistence on interpreting the Constitution of Kosovo.
Before publishing the decision on resignation, Sejdiu held closed meetings with then Prime Minister Hashim Thaci and representatives of the Quint countries.
Later, Sejdiu also communicated the decision to the leadership of the Democratic League of Kosovo. It was LDK's headship, which came out shortly later with a written communiqué, which greeted Sejdiu's decision, praising it as a high moral act.
Since the election to the presidential post, many of the analysts, media and MPs had reminded Sejdiu that it was violating the constitution with the keeping of the post of LDK chairman.
But the official initiative to proceed with this case to the Constitutional Court had been taken by independent MP Naim Rrustemi. / KP
