The prohibited substance, TPO (the heroic bipheniofsphin), gives nails an extra glow and also enables fast drying under ultraviolet light or LED.
But it is considered toxic in the EU, as some studies have shown that they can cause fertility problems and negatively affect reproductive health.
The gel tool for nails, which has gained popularity from the 2000s, drys in UV light or LED, while resulting in a strong and stable manicure, reports “NY Post”
Unlike the traditional nail cloth, gels create a high glow that resists cracks and wipes, sometimes for several weeks.
Not all gels contain TPO, but many contain.
And the EU has long banned certain chemicals that are still deemed legal in the United States, including BHA and BHT in some countries, has decided that health risks are too high, labeling the TPO substance as “cncerogen, toxic for reproduction”.
Some experts argue that the ban is a precautionary and not preventative measure, as evidence linking TPO to health problems is largely based on animal testing.
The European Union is prohibiting it as a measure of caution, as although there are no large scale studies on people who confirm the damage, possible risks were enough to justify stricter regulations”, says Dr. Hannah Copelman dermatologist at “DermonDemand”.
From a medical perspective, I see this more as preliminary action than in response to strong human trials”.
TPO is also used as a photoinciator in dental fillings, but the European ban applies only to cosmetic components.
The TPO is currently unregulated in the United States./Periscopi/
