The EU assembly voted in favour of a non-binding resolution agreed on by central majority groups.
The European Parliament adopted a resolution calling on EU member states to consider recognition of Palestine's state, with the aim of reaching a solution with two states”.
The resolution was approved by 305 votes, 151 against and 122 abstentions.
According to Italian socialist Eurodeput Nicola Zingaretti, it was the result of full negotiations among political groups on various amendments.
The vote was long and tense, and MPs even asked for a pause to control the votes of amendments on Gaza before continuing with the final vote on the resolution as a whole.
Another controversial point in the resolution was using the term “genocide” to describe Israel's attacks on Gaza.
The <x0->decipherd genocide action” was eventually rejected and excluded from the text. /Periscope/
