European leaders land in the United States to discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine. The announcement came from US President Donald Trump, who also stressed he would speak very quickly with President Putin. Following Russia's biggest air strike in Ukraine since the start of the war this weekend, the White House head suggested he was ready to pass into the second phase of sanctions against Moscow.
I have ended seven wars. That's why I thought it might be easier, but when you're dealing with the war you never know what happens. But I think we'll make it through this. Yet I am not happy with them, with nothing to do with this war. Some European leaders will come to the US on Monday or Tuesday, and individually we will discuss ways we can end it. We have to do it; 5 to 7 thousand soldiers a week are dying for no reason at all”, Trump said.
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski said the sanctions were the right idea, while urging European states to give up buying Russian oil. He deemed it unfair that some European partners continued to buy Russian oil and gas.
Russia is trying to cause Ukraine more pain with even greater attacks. It is a clear sign that Putin is testing the world, whether they will accept or tolerate it. It is therefore important that the statements by state leaders and leaders be backed by strong actions against Moscow; sanctions against Russia, related individuals and trade. I think Trump's idea of setting tariffs to countries doing business with Moscow is very good”, Zelensky said.
Russia has sold about $885 billion in oil and gas since the start of the war, with the biggest buyers being China and India. Europe has significantly reduced acquisitions, but has not fully stopped them. Since Trump's meeting with Putin in Alaska last month, Russia has intensified significantly the attacks on Ukraine, while on the other hand claims it is committed to peace. Recent air bombings, the worst so far, killed four people and first hit government headquarters in Kiev. Russia issued 810 fears and 13 rockets in the attack./Periscopi/
