) Today, European Union Ambassador to Kosovo Aivo Ora met with Judge Zenel Lek, the chairman of the panel for Ances and Elections Parashta (PZAP).
He reiterated the European Union's support for continued and transparent work of the panel in maintaining the integrity of the elections, despite political pressures.
The ambassador stressed that this is vital for Kosovo's democracy and its European future, said in the post.
Otherwise, Judge Zenel Lek the day before was the target of attacks by the Vetevendosje Movement.
It was LVV member of the Central Election Commission, Alban Krasniqi, who at a CEC meeting, speaking about the issue of the Serbian List Certificate of Local Elections, has attacked Leku.
Krasniqi had declared during the meeting that Judge Lek is almost named after Serbian List Chairman Zlatan Elek.
I have sent an official e-mail to that person who's name almost like Zlatan Elec, as well as the way he handled this process. Zenel Lek, who is this frontman”, he said.
The Supreme Court had reacted to that language of Krasniqi. This court had condemned the VV member's language and had considered such statements unacceptable and constitute a direct attack on the integrity of a judge.
“Laundering and comparing the name of Judge Zenel Lek is a low attempt to damage his image and undermine trust in justice. The invention of conspiracy theories, labels and efforts to denigration figures of Supreme Court judges in an institution like the CEC, where discretion, clarity and respect are expected, shows a lack of political culture. Kosovo citizens need representatives who respect the institutions, not those who try to delegate them, on unequivocal charges”, said in response.
