For the first time, the Central Election Commission has given itself the duty of registered voters outside Kosovo sending through mail packages with balloting to vote in local elections.
This service is expected to be realised for 43 thousand and 933 Kosovo citizens, who applied and registered to vote via post office in the Municipal Assembly for the Mayors and the Municipal Places.
CEC spokesman Valmir Elezi has explained to Kosova Preis that the process of sending parcels with ballots is under way, until voting by post outside Kosovo officially began on September 17th. So far, more than 150,000 individual ballot packages have been sent out of Kosovo. Thousands more are expected to be sent by the end of this week.
“The CEC intends that within the week it will wrap up the process of sending packages to about 44,000 registered voters outside Kosovo to vote via mail in local elections. It is the first time the CEC has given itself the duty of citizens registered to vote via mail, to send through the mail package from two ballot papers: one for the Comune Mayor's elections and one for the Municipal Assembly”, Elez said.
According to Elez, although voters outside Kosovo do not have ballot packages at the start of the vote, the remaining deadline to vote for more than 20 days is sufficient, as the CEC has opened mailboxes in dozens of different states in the world.
We consider that the CEC's deadline for voting outside Kosovo by mail is sufficient. There are more than 20 days available to Kosovo citizens, namely voters, to send their package of ballot boxes to any of the mailboxes that the CEC has opened to states 23 different states, including Kosovo”, Elez said.
Yesterday at the Central Election Commission meeting, it was mentioned that up until now about 34% of the ballots have only been processed./Periscopi/
