According to the Washington Post, the plan drafted by the Humanitarian Gaza Foundation (GHF) envisions a direct American intervention to manage and rebuild the area for at least 10 years. It includes the Palestinians' temporary shift, providing financial assistance to those who agree to leave and transform Gaza into an industrial and tourist centre.
The proposal envisions payments of up to $5,000, lease subsidies and food assistance for residents who accept the shift, while landowners are offered digital coupons for reconstruction. The document is known as “Trusti for Reconstruction, Economic Acceleration and the transformation of Gaza” and is associated with the slogan: “From an Iranian protectorate destroyed into a prosperous Abrahamic ally. ”
President Trump has declared on February 4th that the US should take “under control” Gaza and turn it into a “riviers of the Middle East”, comments that have prompted harsh reactions from Palestinians and humanitarian organisations, which warn of the danger of a forced population shift.
Meanwhile, the situation on the ground remains tense. Israeli forces have intensified attacks on the outskirts of the city of Gaza, causing major destruction and new transfers of civilians, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyah's security cabinet is considering a plan for full control of the city.
