Danish photographer Thomas Syorup promoted his book “Kosovo at War” in Pristina, until he offered to testify about the crimes Serbia committed on Kosovo's civilian population and the genocide made.
As long as he didn't stay long, he left a message that he's willing to testify at all.
In an interview at “Ora Seven (7”, Sjodrup said that in Kosovo the war came after covering the war in Croatia and Bosnia.
There was something I wanted from an early age, I wanted to travel away, report to these places, so for me it was the next step”, he said.
Soyrup says that in Kosovo from 1998-99, people are mostly remembered.
“Kind, good, open-minded people. There's always been something I've liked”, the photographer said away.
He adds that he has many photos he remembers during wartime in Kosovo.
It's hard to photograph suffering people, but those photos have to be taken. The most difficult day for me was the day after the war ended. I went to a house where I lived, a mass cemetery outside, and a man found his son in that cemetery. They took him and put him in a field, started to cry, took his son's shoes. This was a terrible day for me”, Soyrup said.
As for his photos, he said they have also helped gain trust among internationals, about what was really happening in Kosovo.
I can testify to the things I wrote, and the photos I did. I can say my mind isn't as sharp as 25 years ago, but I know what I wrote at the time that it was my journal. I would like to testify to those things”, Sjodrup said of his willingness to testify to war crimes.
After more than two decades, the photographer says Kosovo found it completely changed, praising its development./Periscopi/
