Croatia's President Zoran Milanovic, in a speech given in New York during the International Conference on the Selecting of Palestinian Affairs, said Croatia should recognise the Palestinian state, calling it an undeniable right and not a political reward.
He added that the final decision will be made by the Croatian government and parliament.
Commenting on the recent recognition of Palestine by France, Milanovic stressed that this is a step towards justice and that it is based on UN Resolution 181 from 1947, which envisioned dividing territories for two states.
He noted that the Palestinian people have suffered for more than a century and that their state should have existed for some time.
When asked about Israel's response and Israeli prime minister's scepticism in creating a Palestinian state, Milanovic said Israel would continue attacks as long as there is international support.
Milanovic also stressed that he does not expect any positive development in the near future.
