The Council of Albanian Ambassadors (KASH) has reacted with concern over the United States' decision to suspend the Strategic Dialogue with Kosovo indefinitely, naming the move dangerous for bilateral reports and for stability in the Western Balkans.
In a statement to the media, The KAS calls on incumbent Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti as the winner of the February 9th elections and other political forces to overcome divisions and co-operate to protect national interests, as well as to restore relations with the US in key areas of defence, security and the economy.
Kosovo is among the most pro-American countries in the world, with a clear commitment to peace, democracy and Euro-Atlantic values. The suspension of dialogue with Pristina, while advancing dialogue with Belgrade, delivers a wrong message and risks destabilizing the region, giving space to Serbia's intervention through the Serbian List”, the statement said.
The Council deems a state that has been one of the most stable US partners to be penalised this way, while according to him, Serbia has drawn ever closer to China, Russia and Iran, benefits from a milder approach.
Kosovo needs support in building its institutions, not pressures that can paralyse their” functioning, the KAS further emphasises.
In response, it points out that authorities in Kosovo must make efforts to get out of the punitive measures imposed by the European Union and now even by the US, through a more constructive approach and by praising the essential role of Western support for the country's development and security.
“Belgrade's interventions in Kosovo, through Serbian political parties, should be addressed in close co-ordination with the US and the EU, and always within the constitutional framework of the Republic of Kosovo”, the KAS adds.
At the end of the declaration, the Council of Albanian Ambassadors calls on the entire political spectrum in Kosovo to unify attitudes for dialogue with Serbia, in the function of reaching a final agreement, which would ensure mutual recognition between the two states.
