United Kingdom Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper has said she has warned Israel not to annex parts of the West Coast as revenge for recognising Palestinian citizenship from Britain.
British top diplomat spoke to BBC television before attending a conference Monday in New York, where France and several other European states are expected to make a similar decision, television reports BBC.
In what was significant in politics, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced Sunday the recognition of a Palestinian state from Britain, along with Canada, Australia, and Portugal.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned these decisions, saying they give “a huge reward to terrorism”.
When asked by British public television if she is concerned that Israel will make this excuse for annexing certain parts of the West Coast, Mrs. Cooper said it has made clear to Israeli counterpart that he and his government should not do so.
“We have been clear that this decision we are making is about the best way to respect security for Israel, as well as the security for Palestinians” the British secretary said afterwards.
“ [This decision] concerns the protection of peace and justice and vital approach to security for the Middle East, and we will continue to work with everyone throughout the region in order to be able to do so” ʹ added Mrs. Cooper.
According to her, extremists from both sides are aiming to abandon any prospects for a two-state solution Britain has a moral obligation to revive.
