Belgium has taken steps to recognise the State of Palestine, following other countries, such as France, the United Kingdom, Australia, etc.
Under this initiative, we continue to support international law, in particular the right of peoples for self-rule”, Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Vives said Monday at a conference in New York to promote two states' settlement, called by France and Saudi Arabia.
The conference was aimed at providing a new impetus to diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in the Middle East, on the basis of a two-state solution which envisions Israel and an independent and democratic Palestinian state living side by side in peace.
“The two-state solution is not dead”, the Belgian prime minister stressed. The “is injured, but its revival is possible and should be done for the benefit of both peoples”, he added.
