The United States Secret Service dismantled a sophisticated network of telecommunication devices that could have seriously influenced mobile systems in New York City, during the time world leaders were gathered for the United Nations General Assembly.
According to the BBC report, the agency found over 300 SIM servers and about 100,000 SIM cards, allegedly used for malicious purposes in the telecommunications field.
Special Agent Matt McCool (the meds) stated that “rrjeti had the capacity to take out mobile towers and potentially paralyses the telephone network of the entire city of New York. ”
The equipment was discovered within a 56km radius of UN headquarters, and preliminary investigations showed that individuals and entities linked to foreign states, known by federal authorities, were behind this operation.
Network actions included sending encrypted messages to criminal groups and terrorist organisations. Officials announced that technology had the capacity to send up to 30 million messages per minute, cut off mobile signals, and prevent emergency lines. In the operation, 80 grams of cocaine, illegal weapons and various computer equipment were also seized./Periscopi/
