According to Greek media, the arrest was carried out on 19 September, following a Greek police operation based on information on a hidden route used to transport drugs through the mountains of Florina, on the southeastern green border with Albania, Euronews.al reports, broadcast Periscope.
The operation took place Thursday afternoon, when the 50-year-old Albanian fell into police ambush, carrying a backpack in which the large quantity of heroin was found.
According to Greek authorities, the value of heroin on the market amounts to between 15 and 30 euros per gram, which amounts to the total value of narcotics seized to more than 600 thousand euros. That's the biggest amount of heroin ever caught by the Office for the Anti-drug War in Xanthi.
Greek police have launched investigations to identify the trafficking network and possible links of the 50-year-old to criminal groups. /Periscope/
