Chinese citizen Cuy Guangha, and British John Miller, whose extraditions are searching the United States on charges of spying and smuggling military technology, have escaped from house arrest in Belgrade and have removed electronic bracelets, Belgrade's Supreme Court confirmed on Tuesday for Radio Free Europe.
The Supreme Court has ordered the warrant of arrest for these two people.
They were arrested in Belgrade in April with international arrest, at the request of the US.
At that world, the US Department of Justice reported that Chinese and British nationals allegedly had “co-ordinated and directed a plot to intimidate and threaten a Los Angeles citizen who had publicly criticised Chinese President Xi Jinping”.
“Cui and Miller have committed two people in the United States to carry out the plot in order to prevent the victim from protesting President Xi's presentation at the Asian-Peacekeeping Economic Co-operation summit. [ APEC] in November 2023”, the Department of Justice said through an announcement.
It was also said that Cui and Miller allegedly implemented a similar plan in the spring of 2025, “after the victim had said he planned to publish an online video showing two new artistic statues of President Xi and his wife”.
In the announcement, Cui and Miller have paid another “to about $36,500 to persuade the victim to give up online publishing of statues. Unknown to Cui and Miller, those two were also linked to the FBI and were acting on the order of the agency”.
As noted, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating the case.
Network Researcher B The IERN had earlier reported that two separate charges were filed against these two US persons, one for “the organisation of persecution and intimidation”, and the other for attempted illegal trade with American military equipment and smuggling them to China.
The extradition agreement between Serbia and the US has been ratified to the Serbian Parliament in February 2019. This agreement enables exchange of fugitives from justice, no matter citizenship. /Periscopi/
