Germany's ambassador to Kosovo and the United Kingdom assess that the Assembly of Kosovo has not yet been constitutionalised, though Chief Parliamentary Dimal Basha has concluded the constitutional session. Jorn Rohde and Jonathan Hargreaves, at meetings held with President Vjosa Osmani, have demanded that the remaining steps for the institution be taken in line with the Constitution.
The developments Saturday, where Chief Parliamentary Dimal Basha closed the Constituent session without being elected deputy chairman of the Serb community, have led ambassadors to President Vjosa Osmani's office.
Germany's Ambassador Jorn Rohde and the United Kingdom's Jonathan Hargreaves have met separately with Osman.
Hours after the meeting, Hargreaves came out with a statement that clearly stated that to the Parliament it was not constitutionalised.
He said that during the meeting with Osman, they discussed the urgent need for future steps for constitutionalisation, stressing that this should be done in line with the constitution, Reporter writes.
It was a pleasure to meet with President Osmani today. We discussed the close partnership and stressed the urgent need for future steps in forming the Parliament, in line with the Kosovo Constitution”, Hargrees wrote.
Meanwhile, Rohde came out with a statement during yesterday, where he expressed concern for “the ongoing political and institutional blockade”.
He has also expressed concern for the public discourse recently, which says he raises doubts about judicial decisions.
Thank you, Miss. Presidents, for fruitful discussion! During the meeting I expressed my concern about the continuing political and institutional blockade, as well as the recent public discourse that casts doubt on judicial decisions, as such developments risk undermining public confidence in the independence and integrity of the constitutional system”, Rohde wrote.
Osmani has told the ambassadors he will act in full accordance with the Constitution and the laws in force.
“The president has reaffirmed that, as always, will act in full accordance with the Constitution and laws in force, guaranteeing institutional stability and respect for the will of Kosovo citizens”, the Presidency has stressed in announcing this meeting.
Despite the failure to elect the Serbian deputy chairman, Chief Parliamentary Dimal Basha has wrapped up the constitutional session Saturday, viewing the Assembly as a constitutional one.
Osmani has been hosting Basha at the meeting Monday, where he has presented his stance regarding the Assembly's Constitution. Osmani has informed Basha that the presidency's legal team is conducting analysis regarding the process of constitutionalising the Kosovo Assembly.
The president has suggested that, as always, he will act in full compliance with the Constitution and laws in power, guaranteeing institutional stability and respect for the will of Kosovo citizens”, the Presidency has announced.. /Periscopi/
