Albania's Assembly holds tomorrow its first session of the 11th legislature, where two meetings are scheduled. The morning one has ceremonial character, is led by the oldest MP, and the only decision he makes is the establishment of a commission verifying MPs' mandates.
The Democrat leader, Sali Berisha, has refused to hold this ceremony, along with MP Tritan Shehu, and is expected to open the session to Socialist lawmaker Vasil Lyjo. Parliament resumes tomorrow afternoon and MPs take the oath, writes A2 CNN.
The new Speaker of the Parliament, for which Prime Minister Edi Rama nominated Niko Pelesh and deputy head of the SP Klodiana Spahiu, will be elected by a secret vote. While Berisha chose not to change the name of the Democrat representative and is expected to vote Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Agron Gjekmarkaj.
Under the Constitution, the president of the Republic, at the beginning of the legislature, appoints the prime minister with the party's proposal that has the majority of seats in the Assembly.
Prime Minister Rama presents within 10 days the Council of Ministers political programme together with its composition in Parliament.
