The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo has criticised the regional water pipeline company “Pristina” and the central level, which they say has not made investments to provide drinking water for the capital's citizens according to the pre-prison standards.
According to the AAK, increasing the level of mangani at Badoc Lake is not random, but has already turned into a recurring problem.
In a recent response, CRU Pristina has tried to relativise the situation, stressing that similar cases are reported in other countries of the world. However, the company has not clarified what concrete measures those countries have taken to ease the impact of this phenomenon on their citizens so that the water supply remains secure and sustainable. Also, the question of what steps the Pristina itself has taken during these three years to prevent repeating the problem and finding a long-term solution remains unanswered. The lack of transparency and concrete plans only add to the citizens' distrust of”, the AAK says. According to AAK, it's disturbing not to respond from the central level.
Kosovo's “government, and in particular the Ministry of Economy, has so far taken no concrete initiative to examine investment opportunities that would address this situation. A sustainable investment plan in water supply infrastructure, resource treatment and water quality security is necessary to avoid repeating such problems”, the AAK says. The AAK would also have to be active in this condition, the Regulatory Authority for Water Services.
“instead of demanding urgent measures for managing and resolving the problem, THE ERU has been silent, offering neither alternative solutions to water treatment nor preventative mechanisms to allow the future situation to be repeated. Such an institution cannot be justified with the formal role of monitoring, but should show active responsibility in protecting citizens and service standards. Besides urgent measures to ensure water quality, THE ER also has to address the economic aspect of the problem. It is unacceptable that residents of the affected neighbourhoods, listed by KRU Pristina, are billed for water that does not meet legal standards for consumption. This conflicts with the license principle, under which the fat is allowed only for drinking water. Therefore, setting relief measures, such as reduction or compensation, is necessary to ensure justice for citizens”, the AAK says. CRU “Pristina” has announced that the value of the mangani in water has increased on Lake Badoci, looking for citizens supplied from this lake, not to use water for drink. /Periscope/
