45-year-old in Zealand found guilty of killing her two children and hiding bodies in suitcases

A 45-year-old woman, Hakyung Lee, has been found guilty of killing her two minor children by a court in New Zealand. Their bodies were kept hidden in the suitcase for several years until they were discovered by chance in 2022. The decision was issued Tuesday by the Supreme Court in Auckland, [...]
The decision was handed out Tuesday by the Supreme Court in Auckland, where the jury took only two hours to reach a decision, rejecting the claim of protection for mental disorders.
According to the investigation, Lee killed her children, her six-year-old son, Minu No, and her 8-year-old daughter, Yun No, in June 2018, just a few months after her husband had passed away from cancer, reports AlJazeera.
After the crime, she put the bodies of children in her suitcases and kept them in a rented warehouse. Later, after stopping paying for the deposit because of financial difficulties, the area was auctioned, and her buyer discovered the bodies of children inside the suitcases.
After the murder, Lee left New Zealand and moved to South Korea, where he changed his name to avoid justice. She was identified and arrested after the case was discovered and later extradited to New Zealand in November 2022.
Judge Geoffrey Vanning ordered that Lee remain in custody until the 26 November 2025 sentence is declared. In New Zealand, the murder is sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum of 10 years before parole can be required.
During the verdict's announcement, Lee remained silent, with his head seated and his face covered with hair, according to local media reports.
