The Energy Regulatory Office has said that since 16 August, consumers who haven't signed commercial contracts with one of the licensed suppliers in the free market will be cut off with electricity.
“As we noted earlier, the process of liberalising the electricity market is in full compliance with the legislation in force, transparently and impartially, respecting all procedure and material standards. The legality of this process is confirmed by competent courts, eventually also by the Contemporary Court Chamber of Two, confirming that all steps have been taken in line with applicable laws in the Republic of Kosovo. The ZRRE calls on all commercial consumers who should be on the free market and who have not yet linked commercial electricity supply contracts, to act without delay, and to select one of the licensed suppliers published on the ZRRE's official website, because by the date of 16.08.2025 commercial consumers who have not signed commercial contracts with one of the licensed suppliers will be cut off from the energy network<1>, the report said.
In March of this year, the Energy Regulatory Office announced its release to the open energy market for major businesses. This decision affects over 1,000 private companies.
Weeks ago, Komercian had cancelled the free-market announcement.
The Commercials' decision to abort the Energy Regulatory Office's announcement and one point of the market liberalisation decision, according to lawyers, was valid for all businesses and implies that they are not obliged to appear in the open energy market. The ZERE decision was submitted for treatment to the Commercial Court by the company “Proex”, under claims it is illegal.
The Court's decision stated the announcement that Z. The RRE has published on March 12th for liberalising the energy market is illegal, because it is binding for the parties and has effects on all businesses going to the free market, and does not meet the criteria of an administrative act.
Commercial has also considered the 4th point of the decision made by ZERE on April 5th for market liberalisation, under the argument that it has not clearly defined some points of switching businesses to the free energy market. /Periscope
